The molecular formula for potassium hydrogen iodate is KIO3 and it is typically manufactured as a white or colorless crystalline powder. This chemical is an oxidizing agent and can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of iodine and also as an analytical reagent. It is incompatible with combustible materials, strong reducing agents and powdered metals. It is also hygroscopic and light sensitive.

Potassium is one of the alkali metals and it is very reactive, so it mostly occurs in nature as ionic salts. It is found in seawater, igneous rock, and in some plants. It is the fourth most abundant element in the Earth’s crust and the eighth most common in the Earth’s mantle. It has a silvery-gray metallic appearance and is the second least dense of the alkali metals.

American Elements produces this chemical to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade), ACS and Reagent Grade, Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows appropriate ASTM testing standards. Typical and custom packaging is available. Please inquire for more information.
