A calcium stearate emulsion is an insoluble powder that is generally known as lubricant, stabilizer and suspending agent. It is also used as an acid scavenger and release agent in the manufacture of plastics (e.g. PVC) as well as waterproofing, in construction and for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

It is a white to yellowish-white waxy substance that has a slight, characteristic fatty odor and a grease-like touch. It can be found in a wide variety of products including stationery, such as pencil and crayons; for example, its use is often employed to prevent them from cracking during folding. In addition, it is also a common ingredient in paper, rubber and concrete products as a lubricant.

This lubricant is highly safe and physiologically harmless. It is insoluble in water, ether, chloroform and acetone as well as in cold alcohol; it is slightly soluble in hot vegetable and mineral oils. It is an effective additive for reducing moisture sorption, improving flow properties and delaying deliquescence in powder formulations and it can also be used as a mold release agent in the manufacturing of tablets and capsules.

Moreover, it can be employed as an anti-caking agent in a variety of industrial applications. It is also used in the production of plastics, as an acid scavenger and as a release agent to protect against degradation by hydrochloric acid; it can also be used in rubber and concrete as an antifoaming and lubricating agent.
