The ruthenium target market is expected to witness significant growth over the coming years due to the increasing demand for it in various sectors. This element is a transition metal that belongs to the platinum group and has excellent inertness properties. It is used in a variety of applications such as alloys that have improved wear resistance, catalysts and thick film resistors.

The use of ruthenium as a target in the semiconductor industry is also expected to boost its market growth. It is a good barrier layer for enhancing the performance of microelectronic chip fabrication.

Using ruthenium in the sputtering target industry is an effective way of producing high purity sub-micron powders from which to manufacture components. The sputtering target is then consolidated in a hot isostatic press (HIP) to produce a high density product.

Nanoruthenium Complexes: Enhancing their Anticancer Activity and Targeting Capability

Ruthhenium-based complexes can be a powerful tool for targeting tumor cells. These complexes exhibit a strong affinity for tumor cell membrane and can directly bind to the membrane surface, altering its permeability to allow cellular content to escape and trigger apoptosis in tumor cells. Moreover, ruthenium complexes have shown to increase their cytotoxicity by changing the DNA binding mode of cancer cells through neutron activation.

Several Ru complexes are currently under clinical trials for cancer therapy. They are able to inhibit tumor growth and induce cell death via a mechanism similar to that of cisplatin. However, these complexes are still under development and need to be optimized for use in clinical trials. Nevertheless, these complexes have shown promise as a replacement for Pt complexes for anticancer drugs.
