The electrical conductivity of titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) is high. Purity: 99% Particle Size: 325 Mesh Learn more about Titanium Silicon Carbide Ti3SiC2 powder Titanium carbide, with its chemical formula Ti3SiC2, is a metal- and ceramic-compatible material. It is also one of the MAX Phases. The new type of ternary, layered ceramic material Titanium silicon carbide is Ti3SiC2. It combines the best of ceramic and metal. The material is a ceramic-like product with excellent yield and melting points. You can use it as metal. The high-speed cutting tools made from high-quality steel are strong in oxidation resistance. They also have good thermal conductivity. It is more flexible than graphite and has a lower friction coefficient. Also, it provides better self-lubricating properties. Due to its metallic and ceramic properties, titanium silicon carbide can be used in both electrical and mechanical applications. This ceramic is known for its high temperature stability, high electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, as well as moderate resistance to oxidation. Additionally, the steel can be processed using hardened tools and has high elongation-at-break at high temperatures. Ti3SiC2 is an attractive material for materials scientists and physicists. These remarkable properties include a high melting temperature, high strength and module, great high-temperature resistance to oxidation, and machineability by conventional and electric cutters. Although titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) has the potential to be a ceramic material, it’s also widely used in combining ceramics with metals. The melting point for titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) is high at 3200°C. There’s also a very low density (4.53 g/cm3), Young’s modulus of 320 GPa. Vickers hardness (4 GPa) and great strength. Ti3SiC2 has both thermal and electrical conductivity. You can use Ti 3 SiC2 not only for its structural properties but also as an attractive material in commutation brushes. Ti3SiC2 titanium carbide Ti3SiC2 slurry has high strength, elastic modulus and high thermal conductivity. It is also very workable.
How Titanium Silicon Carbide Powder is produced?
The method for reducing titanium dioxide is to use a combination of silicon carbide with silicon powder in an atmosphere of 1550°C. A mixture of silicon carbide and silicon powder is the starting material for Ti3SiC2. It does not contain any pure titanium. Because pure titanium has oxidizing and explosive properties, it is not recommended in powders.
Solid-phase reactions are used to produce titanium silicon carbide. Tic is present in the product. The solid-phase reaction of TiSi with graphite and titanium carbide is not able to produce pure titanium silicon caride. You can only obtain pure titanium silica carbide through multiple steps. It is done as follows:
TiSi is mixed with graphite in the first step. The test piece is pressed at 0.420.290.29 mololar ratio. For 10 hours, place the testpiece in an evacuated silicone test tube. Then heat treat at 1100°C to produce a mixture of TiC2, TiC, and TiSiC.
Step 2: Remove TiSi2 by using hydrofluoric Acid.
TiS+12(HF)Yi (TiF)+2SF+6H2
Next, we will oxidize TiC and TiO2 in air at 450F for 10h. After that, the TiO2 is dissolved with (NH)SO or HSO at 100. This solid phase product, titanium silicon carbide (TisSiC2) was obtained.
In order to make a bulk product, powdered by this method should be sintered at an extremely high temperature.
