The solid magnesium reacts to nitrogen gas to create magnesium nitride.
It is possible to make magnesium oxide products by combining nitrogen with NH3 gas in this reaction if it is not pure. It is preferable to react in dry NH3 gases.
The magnesium scraps can be placed in either a porcelain vessel or a sintered-magnesia container. You will install the boat inside a porcelain tube.
