It can be found in leavening agents for cakes, and is a common additive in meat and vegetable processing. It is also a popular ingredient in household cleaning products. In addition, it can be added to pickling solutions to reduce oxidation and remove copper corrosion from metals. It is also widely used in the gold industry to precipitate cyanide from waste solutions. sodium hydrogen sulfate is highly toxic to at least some echinoderms, but it is fairly harmless to most other life forms; it is used in controlling outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish.
